San Antonio Fast Facts

State of TexasSan Antonio is currently the 8th largest city in the U.S. yet still maintains a "small town" atmosphere. The city is the 3rd largest in Texas, in which the medical and biomedical industries continue to be fast growing sectors of the economy. In addition to lacking a state income tax, San Antonio reportedly is one of the least expensive cities to live in within the state.

Weather

  • San Antonio has an average of 2.7" of rainfall every year with May, San Antonio WeatherJune, and October having the highest rainfall.
  • The sun shines for ~ 60% of daylight hours throughout the year with June through September being the sunniest months.
  • The summer is hot in San Antonio. Beginning in June, the average high temperature is in the low 90's and climbs to the upper 90's in July through September.
  • The winter cools down to an average high of 60 to 70°F and becomes very enjoyable.

Activities

Most tourists know about the U.S. history San Antonio provides with the Alamo and Riverwalk. Both attractions are a must see especially during holidays to see the festive decorations.

Some sports highlights include the 2007 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs basketball team, but the city also offers the WNBA Silver Stars, the AHL Rampage, and the MiBL Missions just to name a few.

If you need extreme amusement, we suggest Fiesta Texas and Sea World.  Both contain fun roller coasters and shows.

Travel

For the outdoor lover, San Antonio is located in the heart of Central Texas and enjoys many close by outdoor activities.  Local parks include Friedrich Park and Eisenhower Park with both casual and more demanding hiking and mountain biking trails.  Other state parks and fun cities are just 60 to 90 miles away and include Enchanted Rock, Lost Maples state park, Pedernales Falls, the State Capitol— Austin, Padre Island— Corpus Christi, and many more!

Shopping

For those of us who love shopping, San Antonio provides multiple new and fun window shopping and “retail therapy” adventures, as us residents like to call it.  The Shops at La Cantera is one of the newest shopping centers and offers a wonderful outdoor mall experience that allows you to escape to outdoor seating and landscaping in the midst of the mall.  Other fun places to shop include The Alamo Quarry Market , and the Huebner Oaks Shopping Center which is just a couple of miles away from the medical center.
