Imagine getting the news of your child’s serious heart condition. After the shock, you really have no ideawhat is going to happen. You’re scared and thrown into a completely different world where it seemseveryone is speaking a different language. You’re uprooted and living out of a suitcase while your child goes through complex medical treatments. And you are dealing with endless faces of white coats and scrubs, feeling like you are alone and your child’s only advocate. It has to be one of the most difficult and stressful situations imaginable. Not anymore. Put simply, at our new Children’s Heart Center, patient care means family care. We believe any time the patient is a child, the whole family becomes our patient, too. Family members are in as much need of emotional support, attentive care and logistical help as the core patient. Our entire team is focused on creating the best outcomes for patients, while keeping the family informed, comfortable and educated.
“This concept of having an all-encompassing inpatient and outpatient heart center for kids — but perhaps even more importantly, for families — is critically
important to the success of the program.” — Dr. Adil Husain, Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery
