Almost two-thirds of the 347 children brought to University Hospital’s Pediatric Burn Center with serious injuries in 2017
were pre-schoolers, younger than 4 years of age. Boys made up 58 percent of patients. Hot soup was the No. 1 cause,
and along with boiling water and hot drinks made up over one third of all burns seen at University Hospital.
